Wonít go into first gear

Sometimes bike wonít go into first gear so I either roll forward a little or hold gear lever down and release clutch a little til it goes into gear then pull clutch back in . I spoke to dealer and they tell me itís normal

If it were normal I did not see that on Honda site when looking at the bike specs  !
I suspect we would all be suffering the same issue if it were normal.

If you want to shift back to first gear while stationary especially, if you try to achieve it from some higher gear is difficult. It is perfectly normal, caused by the way these gearboxes working. As you slow down shift back one by one, or if you have to do an emergency stop, and you're stuck in a higher gear do what you described - releasing and pulling the clutch, and potentially engaging and rolling the bike a bit.

I get it's normal to rock the bike back and forth sometimes..and especially if one has  not gone down the box when coming to a stop...but every time ?

+1  - changing down multiple gears when stationary or very slow can need a slight release of the clutch.

Yes, check your workshop manual for clearances, slacken everything off adjust the lower (clutch end) first then handlebar end.  :028:

If you look at how the transmission works you will see that it is possible sometimes that you have to let the clutch out a bit or rock the bike to engage first -this is very true on the pre 2019-these transmissions are called constant mess not synchronized
It's not a big motorcycle just a groovy little motorbike
