engine buzz in 1st and 2nd gear
on: September 19, 2020, 10:37:15 AM
does anyone else experience the annoying buzz from the motor in first and second, from around 4~5k RPM up?
third gear and up are silky smooth.
i understand if its just a part of the little 500cc motor but i'd like to know if theres a way to cut it out.
i can hear it and feel it in the seat.
cheers.

no feeling of extreme vibrations on the x.

Do you have a givi crash bar?

If so, it is possible that it is he who resonates around 4 or 5k.

If so, check the tightness of the crash bar bolts. You can also add a rubber washer for tightening.

5000rpm in 1st and 2nd gear seems fairly high revs - do you do that every time or just when getting away quickly?

I tend to 'short shift' in these early gears and let 3rd gear and up do the work.

Like BZH, I don't notice any bad vibes on the X, although some have mentioned vibration through the bars and pegs at 5-6000 revs, but usually this is in higher gears at, say, 70-80 or even 90mph.
The Story So Far.........
2017-2019: 12000 miles recreational use - 89.73mpg UK; 74.72mpg US; 3.15litres/100km

Iíve come from a sport bike background where I used run up the gears pretty high for the nice sound, haha. If you tend to short shift in the lower gears I will try doing that tomorrow. Havenít experienced any buzzing at higher speeds, but I tend to never speed more than 5mph over the limit, Iím still pretty apprehensive since I was hospitalised when someone pulled in front of me on said sport bike at around 40mph.
Thanks for your help :062:

When you read my comments about how I ride you must remember that I'm 67, and definitely slowing down!!  :008: :008: :008: :008:

This is something I noticed in my 2019 bike... between 102 - 106 km/h there are vibrations, above that they disappears. I had a Touratech windshield extension installed for better protection against the wind but the vibration in that speed range was so great, it sounded so strong that I had to remove it. I prefer a little more wind in the helmet to that crazy sound/vibration. Hopefully when I install my engine protector that resonance does not increase ...

When the engine is not hot enough near 5000 rpm and 100 km/h little buzz in the seat... like the old CB, but less stronger so more comfortable...
