FWIW: I jumped off a 1200cc Buell Ulysses straight to a 2013 X.
I regularly commute c80 miles/day. Half on country roads & half on Interstate.
The X handles as well as the Buell and copes admirably with the Interstate (Between 70-80MPH)
Obviously, the difference between 103HP and 47HP is considerable and overtaking takes a little more planning but I prefer the X as it is substantially lighter than the Buell and the fuel consumption is great.
As to neck pain: I suffer from it , having played far too much rugby in my time, the last four years as a prop.
The X is easier on my neck than the Buell. I'm 60, 6ft tall, weigh 180lbs and have a 2016 screen on my 2013.
YMMV but the X is a really rideable all-rounder of a bike.
I don't miss the Buell.
Ride safe

It's not a sport unless you can suffer massive internal injuries.

I was talking about the shock on their face when they see how old I am on this sort of bike when I should be on a three wheel mobility scooter
It's not a big motorcycle just a groovy little motorbike

I moved from a 2016 Ninja 650 to a 2015 CB500X. I was having pain issues as well, in my hip, due to the seating position. I also wanted a hard luggage option.

I do miss the power, always have, still do to this day, but soon after I purchased the CB500X I bought Givi racks and hard cases and I use them every time I ride.

I do feel that the lack of power may eventually have me moving to a bigger bike but I don't know what that may be. I don't spend much time on the highway so a 450lb bike is a nice weight for around town.

For some context I rode a Ninja 1000 for a few years so I've had experience with higher horsepower bikes. I don't think I need that much power at this point in my life but something in the 70-80HP might be a bit better for me.

I also moved from a Ninja650 onto my 18' X.  I needed to get the weight off my wrists - old injury problem.  I initially missed the extra horses but I am more than able to keep up with my mate on his africa twin. he has tried my bike and declared that it is more fun than his, but he likes the big bike as he does tour with his missus. My bike is for me - the wife isn't interested  :046:
