In the past Honda give most of the aluminum parts always a (thin) clear varnish.
This must be removed to get a nice polish..

Personally I prefer to powder coat the brackets in whatever color.

Just had a flash back from 1969 I was working on a project with American Honda and a few Japanese engineers and I asked the question what is the coating on the engine cases and was told top secret and that went on all week as I was leaving one of the engineers whispered in my ear --Tung oil

My dealer suggested 000 steel wool pads with WD40.

I had already ordered some Autosol, and it worked well.  Upon application, it creates very dark marks on the metal, but that's only the polish that blackens upon contact with the metal.  And once you put a clean cloth, you get a back shiny pegs!  I then put some ACF 50 on them to slow down the tarnishing...
