Best high windscreen for the 500X
on: November 13, 2020, 09:06:33 AM
Which is the best after market high windscreen for the 500X(2019/20 model) to eliminate or reduce significantly the bad buffeting above 45/50mph with the screen that comes fitted as standard to the bike
I've read the Givi thread and it seems to get mixed reviews.
Has anyone had any experience with the Powerbronze one or any other high touring screen,I'm looking more for a replacement screen rather than an add on wind deflector.

Thoughts,opinions and experience most appreciated.

Have you tried going smaller?
I have the 2014 screen on mine and it's much better

When I got the bike I set the screen in it's highest position but have thought of lowering it again I've also thought of removing it altogther.
TBH I'm beginning to wonder if anything/nothing's better than the stock screen :023:

Truth is we have gone down that road so many times it's all bumpy and full of pot holes-since no two people are alike what works for one may not work for others-best I can tell you is find others with different brands of shields and if they will let you take a ride do so -if not roll the dice and pick one-if you are asking me I will say no on both the Givi or Puig but someone else may have a different opinion-what did I do well I added the Chinese adjusters put the stock brackets on the upper level and pulled the shield up One inch --25mm- anymore does not work as well is it perfect NO but it's alot better and that's good enough-if I want silence I jump in the car and roll up the window
It's not a big motorcycle just a groovy little motorbike

I have the 2016 model and the standard screen is fine for me, no buffeting or undue noise, I'm only 5'-8" so not too tall in the seat.
I wear Arai helmets, and both are really quiet, even the Tour X4 with the large peak doesn't cause any problems.
Bikes currently owned,1979 Honda CB550/4.
1988 Honda XBR500. 2003 Kawasaki W650.
2011 Kawasaki W800. 2016 Honda CB500X.

Doesn't cost anything to try it without the screen  :028:

I found it best without one but then I added Barkbusters and messed up the airflow

I ended up going shorter. Try standing up a bit and see how you like the wind flow on face. If you like it, a shorter screen may be an option.
I was getting the low frequency wop wop wop noise which was unbearable. Gave me tinnitus after 20 mins riding.

Went for a ride yesterday to test out my newly fitted fender extender, but before I did I lowered the screen to it's lower fixing point and found the buffeting is much reduced
I'll give it some riding time and try the bike without a screen before I make any rash decisions about buying a high screen.

We've said it many times, it's a strange thing that some of us are fine with the standard screen (2017), and others have such trouble.

I've posted this photo a few times too (!) - I'm 5'10"ish, but I slouch a bit on the bike, so my head is probably in a similar position to you!!  I also wear bi-focals, so my head angle is tilted down, notice the different angle of the helmet when I sit up straight and hold my head straight.....wind would go straight underneath.   :084:
