Ok. I got the ******* panel off. Lost one of the pins of course! Hoping it will fall to earth sometime in the garage, not on the road!
There is no Philips screw on this, my 2016 UK model. Just a grey ally disc, about 22mm diameter with, as one or 2 contributors have stated, an 8mm hex head to put a spanner on, IF you have one that will get down in there.
Having looked through all my many spanners, of all sorts, I don't have one.
I'm thinking that a ratched ring spanner with a hinged head might be best. I don't think there's room to get a 1/4 inch square drive socket to it.
Obviously I can ride it without the panel refitted, but is it possible to get these little panel clip assemblies from a Honda spares dealer or elsewhere? It 'll probasbly be well worth having a packet of 10 in stock!

Look under that grey disk. The teeth for the Phillips screwdriver are behind the disk, perpendicular to the horizontal axis.
Try there and behold the holy grail!

Thanks Grim.
Ceddy. The only Philips screwhead I can see anywhere under that cover, and I have searched thoroughly with a torch, is one at the furthest end of a recess, towards the front of the bike. It is tight, as if holding something in place. I dosn't look or feel like any sort of adjustment.
I have managed to rotate the disc with the 8mm hex head on it. I managed to heat and bend an 8mm ring spanner. The disc has gear teeth on its rear side which obviously engage with another cog. It moves smoothly and anticlockwise, lowers the beam.  :046:

Well, those gear teeth can be turned with a Phillips screwdriver.
See picture...
In any case, you seem to have reached your goal.... congrats!

:157: have had equally frustrating time trying to adjust my 2015 headlight. Took panel off but did not have any tool that would work either on the 8mm nut or pinion teeth underneath. Once you know where the adjuster is you don't need to remove the panel. Could not be simpler in the end. With the bike on full left lock. Kneeling on the r/h/s looking at the headlight panel there is a shallow groove at the bottom. Using the Honda Toolkit screwdriver (as it is obviously machined to fit perfectly), insert from below and you will then feel it engage with the teeth in the pinion wheel. Confirm anti-clockwise for down and took at least 30 turns to see any deflection in the beam.

The screw that you can see under the headlight is for left-right adjustment. The up-down adjustment is under the panel that Ed described. Talking about LED 2016 model but im sure that its the same for all.  :002:

Hiya,

I've got a 2016 model and adjusted the headlight the other day, as you say the manual is far from clear.

Once you've removed the plastic cover, you will see what looks like a silver gear wheel on the right hand side (when sitting on the bike), this is the adjustment wheel. According to the manual, you insert a phillips screwdriver from below to act as a pinion on this gear.

I found this laborious so used a socket on the gear wheel instead and then you can actually see the beam moving!  :152:

Maybe a screwdriver bit or socket in a battery powered drill would make a quicker job of it.

I have not tried yet to adjust it on my 2016 model with LED Lights but i will as it looks aiming a bit higher. According to the manual what i get as it is not clear, is: you remove the plastic lid below the speedometer by removing the plastic bolts. Then on the right side of the steering it should have a Phillips screw which if you turn clockwise goes higher and counterclockwise lower. Below i attached a pic from the manual i have for the CB500X-XA adjusting your healdights on the section of Maintenance. Sorry for the late reply i just joined the group.
