I find the computer not that accurate. My U.S. based 2013 has averaged around 68 mpg over the 5 months and 6,000 miles I've owned it. The best I've seen is 72 and the worst was around 55.
I'm happy with those numbers, but wonder about some of pretty incredible mpg reports I see.
Just damn happy to be here...

This may be obvious to some but you also need to distinguish reports using Imperial gallons from those based on US gallons.

Yeah - 89mpg UK is nearer 75mpg US - and ' in the land down-under' (where my daughter lives) they measure litres per 100km - all 3 for my average mpg on my signature below!!

The Story So Far.........
2017-2019: 12000mls recreational use - 89.73mpg UK; 74.72mpg US; 3.15litres/100km

................. and likewise, even if using tank-to-tank calculations as I do, you should really distinguish folks' figures depending on their bike's gearing. I understand the odometer/ speedo is up to 10% optimistic on the original sprockets combo so, unless I'm mistaken, your tank-to-tank calculated fuel economy figures will be similarly optimistic :002:
I have a 16T drive sprocket so my bike achieves a reduced (more realistic) mpg given each recorded "mile" is now longer than before!; I get 73-76 mls/imp.g by calculation ..... but there are few boring or busy roads around here. That's similar/ maybe slightly better than my previous Suzuki Inazuma 250.

It was to early to be drunk, so I can only alibi my 68 mpg average (U.S. gal) post to lack of morning coffee and old age. The actual 5 month/6k average is 61.68 per Fuelio. Happy with that none-the-less  :306:

Interesting responses, thanks chaps! I'll get the pen and paper out when I do my next fill-up and see where I'm at!

Finally got through my first tankful and, based on the trip meter and a pen and paper, I make it 90mpg (UK gallons)...probably not 'very' accurate but not far off, so I'm happy with that!  :002:

I'm at 29 months with 20,000 miles. The mpg meter is a bit optimist as are most real-time sampling meters. Average reading 85mpg, Low rpm(40mph) droning along will see the gauge creep up to 99mpg. Fill-up calculations average 75-82 mpg. I haven't seen anything else (that I must own) that claims as much as 50mpg. Cheers, T
Farkles: A silly little word for things I know nothing about until I read another post and wonder "Why in the world have I not gotten this yet?"

2014 with 39 tooth rear sprocket and a Leo Vince exhaust.
Display is exactly 15% pessimistic as measured by GPS distance covered vs US gallons pumped into the tank. Plus one chunky rider  :018:
Display shows 55 - 65 US mpg while I am really getting 64 - 75 mpg US depending on how I ride which is usually brisk to hard.
PS I would gladly trade 20mpg for 20 horsepower  :001:

Motorboy  :002: Boy are you lucky the 500X isn't a two stroke.
40 MPH in 6th gear?
If it were a RD400 you would have to carry a case of spark plugs
with you.  :153:
I'm just shifting from 2nd to 3rd at that speed.
I put mine in 6th today at 45mph and tried to roll on the gas,
and it sounded like it was running under water!
:038:  All kidding aside, I love the way this thing revs.
I hope the engine is more Japanese then Thailandian, because
I'm probably going to wear mine out.    :007:

P.S. Took mine offroad today for the first time, and it kind of
felt like a lighter version of my old Buell Ulysses!  :016:
Which got good gas mileage too. Just want to stay on topic.  :431:
