Swanny,

Compared to either my Transalp or the F8GS, the CB5X felt "hard", as if the suspension set up was very much road orientated. Saying that, I have "fettled" both the other bikes front forks to give a more compliant ride off road than the standard setup. The CB5X managed fine though, even at a spirited lick of speed in 3rd gear  :152:. There I was, brapping along in a wheel rut and not being bovvered by the gorse and broom lashing against the bikes panels  :005:. The bike handled fine on the broken surface and kept its front wheel pointing in the right direction  :046:. The sump guard is working fine at providing a protective cover for the front of the engine and, obviously, the sump  :745:

Yes, I did have to drop the forks out to fit the gaitors - can't honestly imagine how you would get them on without dropping the forks. I have got some neoprene sleeve type gaitors sitting in the spares drawer, the type that you can just wrap around the forks, but their thickness prevents them being securable around the top of the lower fork leg, if that makes sense!

Passed the 300 mile mark early on in the ride and now only need another 200 before it's 1st service  :046:. Maybe a quick squirt up to Ullapool and back this weekend will fill that gap and I can get the 1st service over and done with  :015:

Well, that’s the longest run yet – 235 miles according to the satnav, 240 going by the bikes odometer. Bike well and truly run in and ready for the 1st service  :152:

Ullapool & back via not the most direct route on mostly dry roads  :046: with only the odd wintery shower, leading to a really enjoyable ride out on the little bike  :046:.

Looks like a nice day out Steve :152:

There's a few threads about running in on here with quite a few dealers, etc giving different advice - makes for an interesting read if your boring like me! I'll see if I can find it
