1st start : Ignition key lock dead
on: March 13, 2020, 01:00:38 PM
I won't give you the details, but I had a lot of trouble getting my first bike. But my last problem is on the top.  :191: :013:

I had just received the keys to my CB500x (2016 model 2017 - 20000km). I go on board and tell myself that I haven't tested the lock of the ignition key (Neiman in French, I don't know the word in english). And so... the lock is PERFECT ! Very Perfect ! Impossible to steal the bike, but ... impossible to unlock or remove the key ! :125: The garage where I bought the CB500x didn't find a solution, and Honda told them they knew about this problem on CB500. :033:

Now, I'm waiting since 2 weeks a new ignition key lock assembly, which is out in stock Europe. Today, the Kit is finaly arrived at Honda Europe in... the Netherlands. It still take 48/72 hours to arrive in France and an another 48 hours to fixe my bike. So with chance (yes, just a little please), I should be able to drive my CB500x for the 1st time in the middle or at the end of the next week. :164: Great start !

Have you heard somethings about this problem?

Sorry, i write in french, more simple for me...

I would definitely try a shot of penetrating oil (dégrippant).  Then let it sit for a bit.  The oil might free it up.  Keep working at it.

On ignition barrels or any lock with pins you should use a dusting of Graphite Powder as any oil based product will only encourage debris to stick in the lock.

Normally, yes.  But he already has debris in the lock -- his KEY has been stuck in it for almost two weeks.  I think under the circumstances that penetrating oil has a much better chance of success than graphite powder.  It will be very difficult to get that powder in the lock tumbler with the key already in it.

I didn't leave very quickly with the bike after the purchase. :015:  When they saw me at war with my keys.  The mechanics came to show me how to do it. LoL :008:

They tested several cleaners, penetrating oil and a graphite spray. Nothing worked, the system didn't move a millimeter.

Tell me, my CB500x will sleep outside.  You advise me to cover some point of bike?  I don't usually cover my scooter, the humidity gets under the cover in daily use.  I only do this when I stop driving for several days. Maybe we can 3D print a cover for ignition barrel.

I'd cover it and take out the fuses and spark plug
