Especially when Honda decides to put the horn and indicators in the wrong place  :027:
I'm fine with the indicators but not with the horn

I've sort of gotten use to it, but for a long time I was indicating my turns audibly.

Trouble is I ride two bikes and they are both ways  :033:
It's the horn on the 500 that I struggle with, I do try practicing with it every now and again  :173:
Probably not much of a big deal as the
meep meep is pathetic anyway  :008:

I was in a similar position to you a couple of years ago.  I'm 48 now, 5'4 and got my bike licence in summer 2018. I ride a stock 2017 500x which I bought soon after getting my full licence.

I think it's fair to say that whatever first bike you get you almost certainly will drop it at slow speed.  In my case I dropped the bike four or five times within the first few months. Three of them were on my bloody driveway! There are a million ways to drop a bike, especially for us shorties.  You'll never imagine how much difference a raised manhole cover or the camber on a road can make until you experience it.  Get out of the way if it's going over and have some decent boots in case your leg gets trapped!

So here's my tuppence worth

- Expect to drop your bike, whatever it is, particularly when you're first getting used to riding.  The 500x drops very well by all accounts. Put some Barkbusters on to protect the levers.

 - Get some time on a small bike first. A bike that you know you won't keep.  I rode a 125 for a year before getting my full licence. I know this is an unpopular thing to do but even a "slow" bike like the 500x feels very fast at first if you're coming from a normal car. I think the power/weight of a 500x is about the same as a Subaru Impreza.

- Have fun.  Learning to ride is one of the best things I've done.  It's just ####ing great. I love it.

Am I the odd man out here?  I've never dropped my bike?!

That's probably tempting fate.....

Best advice for a new rider - remember, everyone else on the road is trying to kill you.

Let us never forget - the mascot on a Mercedes is in fact crosshairs for the machine gun under the bonnet!

Never a truer word.
Never trust a driver, even if they are staring you in the eyes that doesn't mean they've seen you  :127:
