on: May 06, 2020, 09:21:46 AM
Ok i need some answers to this problem ,i have just recieved an email from a store who supplies shim kits ,i asked if one of there kkits was suitable to use on the 500x ,the answer i got was not what i expected at all , the shim kit you have enquired about is not suitable for use on the honda cb500x nor can i find one that is  :012: So what do the other guys in australia do ? surely someone does this themselves or do they take there bikes to a mechanic there must be a kit suitable to use on the 500x .

I think there are references on this forum to a Hot Cams shim kit.  I used this Hot Cams kit: https://www.amazon.com/Hot-Cams-HCSHIM01-Shim-Kit/dp/B000UKM6LG/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=hcshim01&qid=1588764813&sr=8-1.  It's also available from http://www.hotcamsinc.com/ (Hot Cams does not list this kit as fitting the CB500x) and other places.

The shims in this kit are at .05 increments; the Honda shims are at increments half that.  For me, the .05 increments worked out OK.

Hi mate you know that was the kit i was looking at was a hotcams shim kit , the diameter of the shim seemed right i just wanted to make sure but when i got the reply i thought hang on if its the right diameter as long as it is a varied range then why wont it fit ? it makes you wonder sometimes if it say t only does these bikes they take it for gospel that it will only fit those bikes ,i think i read the shims are around 7.5 mm in diameter for the cb500x and this kit was that size .

I wonder if the base thickness of the shims is different ?

Some shims may be 3mm base thickness

Some shims may be 5mm base thickness

Hi all i just emailed hot cams customer support to get a product # and if they do have a kit to suit the 500 , hopefully i can get a diffinitve answer from them and then check product numbers with the aftermarket supplier .
