I hope for all your sakes these things aren't mutually exclusive. You can take a good dump, lose weight, and get a lighter battery.  The effects should be cumulative  :001:

Hey, LDesp:  Despite a tiny bit of flak, I'm with you on the Li battery & have switched out the OEM on all my bikes in favor of the smaller, lighter Li's in recent years.  Batteries always sit high & if there's a bike out there that can benefit from a diet, it's the X.  By the time we add protection items & load even a small bag for travel, we're up to 450# which is madness, especially in the dirt.  We're really losing the performance opportunities with this fine bike & it's high weight but I don't think Honda has ever been well known for its dieting efforts.

Losing body weight is fine but then, instead of being a 160#+ rider with a 450# bike, I'm now a scrawny 135# rider trying to maneuver the same 450# bike; there's a difference.  I say go for it like I will very soon; Li batteries are excellent & the Anti-Gravity is the one of choice every time (check out the "Re-Start" Anti-Gravity; they're slick but pricey).  Just my $.02 that's always worked for me.  Cheers & ride safely, Bob in AZ/USA

Thanks for all the input!

For those interested, I ended up with the ATZ7 I did have to  add a little foam padding under the battery to raise it up to connect the cables.

Let us know how it works out. I am considering a similar switch when my original battery eventually needs to be replaced.
Thanks, Joe

Will lithium batteries hold a charge as well as the one battery?

Ken, Li's hold their charge really well & crank like crazy.  But, unlike lead-acid batts that slowly lose their charge, the Li batteries will go full steam but then crap out all at once (unless you have the Anti-Gravity "Re-Start" version that preserves a portion of the charge).  Attention must be paid to the operating temperature range but really all that's needed in really cold weather is to turn the ignition on, let the battery heat up for about 20 seconds then crank.  You can trickle-charge Li batteries but it takes a dedicated charger so that's an added expense; I have my original charger so it's a one-time purchase.  Also, there's specific jump-start hardware.  All this is easy & no problem once you have the correct accessories for a Li.

Much is written about the features, pros & cons but I like the advantages more than I worry about the negative aspects.  I'm not an expert but am a regular user of Li batteries & much prefer them now.  Recommend a bit of research first before you splash close to $200.  In all my previous bikes with Li batts, it's the last one I ever installed.  Hope this helps a bit; long answer to a short question....  Cheers & ride safely, Bob in AZ/USA

Ok not the same but on changing to Lithium on my Tiger I saved exactly 4Kg (oem 5.3Kg, Li 1.3Kg). That's 8.8lbs in old money. And as batteries tend to be up high you can really feel the difference. For me was only a performance upgrade when I rode after installing and realising how much easier it was to flick. My oem was 9 years old on replacement.

For the CB500x the oem is 2.73kg (6lb), the ATZ-7 is 0.6Kg (1.32lb) and has better CCA.
