chains how many clip how many rivet?

i all well as the title says who here uses the chain link clip and who rivets there chains together , a decent riveter here in oz will set you back around 180.00 and yes you can buy the el cheapo models from china and have them break after the first use as many reports say ,was watching that delboys garage the other night and he used one in pommy land but when you convert there price to au it is staggering . I worked out on an average of 6.00 for a clip link i would have to change 31 chains just to break even more than i will ever need for this bike .

DID master link with ciip supplied with new chain. The outer link plate uses an interference fit by design so it must be pressed on the pins and is held in place by the tight fit. Then the clip is fitted as a safeguard. At 24 kmiles, the clip was worn and loose. I replaced just the clip with a new one bought with a complete master link.

I haven't replaced the chain on the X yet (soon!), but dealer replaced the chain on my last bike (GT650) and used the clip.  Never had any problems with it.

Best of both worlds -EK makes a riveted link that requires no special tool only a wrench-since the only chain I use is EK-I ordered one a while back just to check it out(I have a riveting tool) very clever--as far a clips go there are a few things I will not use on a street bike that goes over 30mph clip master links and tubes in tires just to name a few

I rivet mine, but there is certainly room to do either one wrong.

Just fitted a DID Vx3 with clip. A bit disappointed that I had to buy a chain tool to press them together. I was hoping pliers would do it.

You blokes are really spoilt for choice with that mob tools galore as said the overpirced chinese junk we get here ill pay 100.00 for a decent peice of kit .

Friend of mine crashed years ago due to failed clip link - chain stucked rear wheel mid corner. Nothing serious happened (except for cracked engine crankcase and some scratches on his face - there was no helmet) because it was at 60km/h on forest track. But at 120km/h it would certainly hurts you.

However it was older type clip link - with no interference fitting. The modern one are interference fitted and they're much safer.
