Yes - it was my pump - a lot of metallic chips inside. In my case for sure it was the cause of pump leakage. Drained the coolant and replaced the pump - so far so good. 18000 kms and no trace of leakage anymore.

28000kms. However mine started to leak slightly brand new, stopped with 1500 and started again at higher rate with 28000.

That first oil change early on is really important, as it clears out any metal residue from manufacturing and running in. Also I change the coolant early on as well, because you will also get metal particles from machining in the waterways, in fact I think there was a picture on here that showed metal particles in a water pump, so I give it a good flush out and  renew coolant, in the big scheme of things it's only a few pounds. also I fit a magnetic sump plug you'll be surprised what that picks up. I use Honda type 2 coolant not the pro stuff, buy it from car place a lot cheaper and same spec but different color and about 15 for 5 litre. Well that's my thoughts on looking after my engine, I dare say everybody thinks differently, but that's what makes the world go round.  :158:
YES !!!

type 2 is INT or OAT ?
if i remember well its an OAT correct?
i  too use toyota's HOAT coolant

for the rest fellow forumers .

im an engineer - car mechanic for 25 years now
apart from this beeing my everyday job its also my beloved hobby.
develop-build-mod-service engines.

im not promoting anybrand of coolant or oil as a fellow said ironicly.....

im giving you some good advicce about things ive seen -studied.

soooo honda says engine oil replacement should be every 12.000 km's

but im changing the oil on all my bikes in less than 6.000 km's

if i tell you to do what i do ...would that make me a promoter of .......... oil brand ?????

forums like this are here to help each other ....

i dont see the reason why one should be ironic.

and last but not  least i dont recall advising on a specific coolant brand  :084: :084: :084: :187: :187: :187: :187: :038: :038:

Of course this forum is here to help people and keep them informed.

Which is why I would like to ask for the evidence that Honda's fluid change schedules are inadequate and likely to cause damage to our bikes?

the water/oil pump assembly is the same as on the 1998 model...
But the old one never had any problems with leaks at this level. Never.
I had bought mine in 2017, a 1998 model year, no leak even in a traffic jam on the German motorway with 35 and the fan that didn't stop.
I hadn't changed the coolant and had no idea how old it was. But it work well.
A magasine put one in spare parts after 300000 km, no corrosion at the pump...

Conclusion? Good quality machining or metal in 1996, bad quality machining or metal in 2016...

So you acknowledge that there is no problem with Honda fluid change schedules.

Thanks for clarifying.
