Tyres and Wheels / Balancing beads.
« on: April 02, 2021, 02:27:43 AM »
Anyone here use the balancing beads to balance their bike tires? Are the beads better than the old spin balancing and stick on weights?

So I'm still undecided between a shock sock or a protective flap of some sort. So while the wheels are off the bike getting a new set of Shinkos I thought it would be good time to work on a protective flap idea I've been thinking about.

First I needed to find some black plastic material to use for a flap. I made a trip to the Dollar Store looking for a cheap storage container of some sort and found a $3 waist basket. The shape turned out to be perfect and the plastic wasn't  too thin and flimsy, not too thick and ridged, just right!

First a cardboard template, and then the plastic flap. I decided the frame rails would be a good place to attach it so I wanted it to fit close between the rails.

I'm pretty happy, it turned out better than I had hoped for.  I punched a couple holes in the "ears" for the zip ties to fit through and attach to the frame rails and it's surprisingly sturdy. I actually tried to pull it loose. Now I just need to give it a good test.

Modifications, Accessories, and Appearance / One winter project finished!

I've had these US military surplus telegraph radio boxes for years and I finally decided what I'd do with them. They are really nice aluminum boxes so I'm mounting them on my 500x

First thing is to fabricate the mounting hardware using the attachment points for the hand rails.

Mounting hardware pretty much done.

Test fitting, so far all's good.

Time for prep work for painting.

Done! I was hoping to match the matte finish silver on the bike but I really missed. :006:

Happy holidays everyone!  :821:

Rally Raid / Am I figuring this correctly?
« on: October 27, 2020, 01:18:28 PM »
So I went to the Rally Raid Web site to order a skid plate. After filling out the oder form and seeing the taxes, shipping and exchange rate, the skid plate is going to cost $470  :156:. Am I figuring this correctly?

I took the Blue Ridge Parkway from home, Floyd Va, to Blowing Rock NC,

And then about 20 miles of dirt and gravel to Betseys Ole Country store in beautiful downtown Mortimer NC,

The cabin at Betseys was home sweet home for a few days,

Then I spent a couple days riding the Pisgah National Forest roads and the Linville Gorge Wilderness area,

Modifications, Accessories, and Appearance / Acerbis Rally Pro Hand Gaurds
« on: September 10, 2020, 05:17:02 PM »
I have a set of the Acerbis Rally Pro hand gaurds that I want to put on my 2020 500X. I will need to order an installation kit for the larger diameter bars. Im curious if anyone here has these hand gaurds on a 500X and we're there any mounting issues.
Thanks much as always, kenny

Maintenance and Servicing / Counter shaft sprocket bolt torque value?
« on: September 01, 2020, 05:34:40 PM »
I'm installing a 16t counter shaft sprocket on my 2020 500X  today and I'm hoping someone here can help me with the sprocket bolt torque value. I did search and found an older post that said 54nm but I'm not sure if it's different for the 2020.
Thanks much as always, kenny
