Title: 2 year brake bleeding
Post by: Markdarren on March 20, 2017, 10:15:36 PM
How do you do a 2 year brake bleed on a X with ABS.
1)The old fashion way, add fluid to the reservoir & pump.
2) Take the bike to Honda and they connected to a computer and place it in drain mode to bleed.

I did it the old fashioned way, installing speed bleeders and adding new fluid to the master cylinders.  It took a lot of bleeding to get the rear brake firm again, I used maybe 4 ounces on the rear and did the front brake and the CRF230L brakes using 4-5 ounces.  The dirt bike does not have ABS.

Agreed - old fashioned way is fine. The only caveat I would add is for ABS bikes; if there is any muck/rubbish in the reservoir, suck is out with a syringe rather than pump it through the ABS plumbing.

I use the reverse bleeding/flush method. When I first empty the reservoir I wipe it clean to get any gunk out of it. Here's a link showing how to do it.

As above. Works perfectly.

Interesting. The only thing I would add is to use a JIS screwdriver on the master cylinder cover. You can also get JIS bits for an impact driver.

Good info drjack. When the time comes, I'll use that method.
Thanks
