Title: Canadaian West Coast
Post by: vickriz on April 02, 2019, 12:10:22 AM
Just signed up as I recently got a 2013 CB500X. Hoping to do a trip with my son late this summer.

First issue is the windshield. Solved it on the DL650 with a madstad bracket. I see there's an epic thread on that issue here too. Sigh.

I also have a CBR250R and just sold a DL650.

Welcome to the forum. I have a 2014 X that I have ordered RR lvl 2 for and am anxiously awaiting the parts. My son has a 2013 X and I have been planning to get a 19 but I am enjoying the 14 so much I may not.  :401:

Pretty much same story. I had a DL650 and bought the Madstad bracket and it was great. I got one for my CB500X and it didn't perform the same for me.

I've been at it for a while if you want to see my trial and error: https://www.cb500x.com/index.php/topic,8149.0.html

In the end, I went with a Givi and MRA X-creen tour size, which is pretty good. I think that I could have gotten away with a shorter screen, maybe a tall OEM or a 16+ swap.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks so much or pointing me to your trails and tribulations. Do you have any thoughts on the x-creen with the stock windshield?

I still do have the stubby OEM, but I haven't tried the X-creen with it. My best guess is that it would be too short to direct enough air up and over for a guy my size. I'm 6'. The shape of it doesn't really lend itself to flow air over the rider. That would put a majority of the work on the x-creen, which it isn't designed to do.

How tall are you?

I'm also 6 ft. I was hoping I wouldn't hve to shell out for a new screen and the x-creen.

I know what you mean. It's really a tough call. I was willing to invest in it as getting my ergonomics set up correctly (bars, levers, risers, etc) and getting the wind protection set up were the two primary goals to to make the bike enjoyable. Other than that, it doesn't take whole lot more. This bike is already fantastic.

If you're willing to bend the brackets some (so I've heard) the 16+ OEM screen will fit our bikes. That screen is something like $60 on bikebandit.com. Very cheap in comparison with Givi, Puig, etc.

This weekend I might try to borrow my friend's 18. That has the newer screen on it. I'm thinking of fitting my x-creen just out of curiosity. I can report back if I end up doing it.

Keep in mind, I've done exact combinations that other riders our height have used in the 90 page windscreen thread. Their combinations didn't work for me. So, what works for me might not work for you anyway...

Tonight I dropped the stock screen to the low setting and inserted a couple washers under the lower mounts. I'll give that a spin and see.

If you do get a chance to take your buddy's 18 for a spin with your x-creeen, please report back!

Should we move this conversation to the end of the other thread? https://www.cb500x.com/index.php/topic,8149.0.html
