Title: Rear top box
Post by: Borsato on August 13, 2019, 12:22:59 PM
Does the Givi top box come with its own rack underneath or do I have to buy a separate rack. Cant seem to find the answer. Thanks.

You have to get a rack, either Givi or maybe SW Motechs Alu-rack which needs an adapter plate to mount many makes of top box.

The Monolock series comes with it's own base and will bolt up to any rack that excepts any Givi base

Givi do two main types of case MonoLOCK and MonoKEY....each requires a specific rack plate. Later V type cases also require V type fittings...best to buy secondhand as a complete set up

Do what I did........
I got the Givi top case mount, without a base plate.
Then used a Shad top case, which comes with it's own
base plate.
This was the cheapest way to go... :016:

I am planning to buy a Givi V47 and i am afraid that it will be too big for this bike...
Honda suggest a 35L top box.
If someone has the same top case, Givi V47, i will be pleased to see a picture.
Thanks!

I have a V47, and I think it is the perfect size.

Did you ever get the 47? I've just picked up my new CB and would rather not strap a milk crate to it ;) The dude who posted a pic of his, also had side cases. I wonder if the 47 would seem too huge without those.  Seems these top cases are quite expensive. Anyway...any experience you can share would be appreciated.

Great...thanks for those shots. I like the space in that case. I don't see an L35, as the other person said honda recommended, but I see a 37. Not sure that would be big enough for a grocery bag and things I might need to cart home after work. What is the weight capacity of the 47?

Givi says 22 lbs, and I assume that is a bit conservative.  I like because I can easily put my helmet (Shoei 1000RF) and my riding jacket in it, though I do use it for groceries.  I think it looks good and certainly fits the adventure bike form-follows-function aesthetic, but if anything is subjective, that is!  I resisted for a long time putting a top box on my VFR because the bike was just plain beautiful in a classic way, but I eventually did because I like the functionality.

This just looks faster and sweeter than...

this.

I actually did Velcro a milk crate to my CBx this morning for a trip to the store. So...as Iím trying to figure out a more aesthetic (affordable) solution, I found this, super inexpensive, case. So the obvious question is; what rack will work with it? Possibly the givi without a top plate?   Comie Motorcycle Tour Tail Box Trunk Luggage Top Lock Storage Carrier Case w/soft backrest&handle - 48L Capacity  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GZLBPNM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_JHzFDb38RR9CD

That's quite big at 48L, I have givi V40 (40L) which I also think is on the large side for this bike.

Sorry I can't be any help with base plates for that, but have you thought about second hand. I got my Topbox for a 3rd of the price as good as new  :152: I have the Givi arms and base plate which are good quality, the arms should fit other base plates there's three mounting holes on each side.

Iíd be happy to find something 2nd hand, but I have not found anything yet. With regards to size, Iíd consider something smaller. Guess I will keep looking.

Yes Topo, The Givi top case rack without base plate probably would work.
Or, could be made to work.
That Comie base plate is made similar to the base plate on my Shad.
You either go through a hole with the square metal piece and a bolt,
or use the long brackets where the holes don't line up exactly.
I had to use both.................... :305:

The only problem would be how good is that cheap Chinese "Comie"
case and base plate?
*OK, I just read on their description on Amazon, where they warn of
over tightening the bolts that attach the base plate to the rack arms.
This leads me to believe that the plastic base plate is pretty flimsy.
You might want to spend a little more on the top case!
Shad like I got is a lot cheaper then Givi and the case comes with a
base plate like the Comie.
You have to buy the Givi base plate separately, and they have several different styles.

Thanks...youíre right, the Comie looks too cheap. I looked at the Givi v40, and the comparable shad seems about the same $. Looks like you have to get the shad rack too.

This is the Shad plate on the Givi Rack mounts.
There is a cover that goes over the middle where the bolts go.
There are several holes in the arms to mount to.
You just line a hole up with the squares in the plate,
and drop in the Red piece. A bolt then goes in there
with a nut on the under side.
I have the smallest Shad which came with the mounting plate.
I think all Shads come with a mounting plate? Mine did anyway!
