CB500X - General Chat / First Ride on the X
« on: July 21, 2013, 12:35:18 AM »
Picked up my 500X today from the dealership. I had them install a 12V power adapter and the rear tire hugger. No other parts available around here yet. Not even a center stand!

Ok, first thoughts...... I am glad that I completed the Basic MSF course last weekend. That greatly added to getting more prepared for the X.  :305:

My initial reaction to the bike is very favorable. Around town and in the city, this baby rules!! Not too big and not too small to get around.  However, that changes when you get on the freeway. The X has no problem accelerating to cruising speed with traffic. It is only when you get above 65Mph that the engine has no where to go!  Between 70-80Mph the bike moves, but it begins to lose stability. Faster traffic and wind buffeting shakes the X around quite a bit.
I am not looking to compete with faster bikes and I have no ego to bruise in that area, but I think I will limit my rides to the back roads and city driving where the X is at home.
The beautiful winding country roads here in Virginia allows the X to feel that it owns the road. I will not argue with it at all.

The ABS brakes are just awesome! I think once you have a bike with ABS you will not want another one without them. They do not lead you into any false sense of security, but they do stop quickly without locking up the wheels. Around here, traffic lights change quickly from yellow to red. So, if you are hitting an intersection at 45Mph, you have plenty of breaking power with the ABS.

The seat is horrible!  My ass is so sore. Either the seat will break in or my ass will become hard as a rock.

The mirrors are too small in size. I am going to have to get some mirror extenders to widen my view. I have broad shoulders and the mirrors are just too narrow.

When parts are available I am going to get the taller windshield. I got tossed around a bit on the freeway and my head was acting like a pinball from the wind. The windshield is mounted at its highest point.

Outstanding first bike to begin riding on again. In my case it has been 20 yrs. since I last rode a bike. Today, it felt like I never lost a step.

Peppy engine and full of spunk. The 500cc engine has a place in the market and with the Honda brand, it will sell like crazy!

ABS brakes.....nuff said

I put about 100 miles on it today and I will put more on tomorrow.  I will post some pics at at that time.

I am so glad I got the X. It is a joy to ride and I look forward many more miles.

CB500X - General Chat / Re: OTD (Out The Door) price
« on: July 10, 2013, 08:06:52 PM »

My dealer would not budge on the price of the bike. Because the bike is so new, both Honda and dealerships know that these bikes are going to sell like crazy, they are going to get what they want. Especially when ABS is involved.  Law of supply and demand.

The bike is so new that Allstate insurance does not have a classification or entry for the 500X to give it a proper insurance rate! They have the classification for the 500F but not the 500X. How funny is that?! :745:

Just bought my 500X ABS today. Here is what my charges resemble:

Base price: $6499.00
Freight: $458 (shipping the bike to the dealership)
Handling: $175 (to build the bike from crate)
Title charge: $10
Business license tax: $31
Vehicle tax: $294
Sales tax: $102
Document fee: $152
Virginia License fee: $29
Out the door: $7757

I tried to get the business mgr. to remove or reduce the freight charge. It all seems so BS to me. The mgr. stated that they do not make any money off of these bikes, hence no reduction of costs. They would not show me the dealer invoice, because I wanted to prove him wrong!

I also have LoJack being installed, a rear tire hugger, along with a 12V power adapter.
The bike is so new that most accessories are not available yet, at least not around here anyways.

I will be able to pick up the bike on Friday.

Hope this helps.

Beautiful pics of your bike and the harsh winter you are experiencing down under!

I am picking up my 500X ABS next week. Same color as yours.

Look forward to hearing and seeing more of your posts and reviews!

......Cheers to you too Piston Broke!

I just heard from one of my Honda dealers that they just received a 500X with ABS, which is what I wanted. I immediately put down a deposit over the phone and I should be able to pick it up next week.

The 500X is the all black version with the digi-camo X on the tank.

Still, your bike pics will stand out despite any pics I have of my own bike!

Just got a call from one of my local dealers. They just had a new CB500X ABS delivered and the person that put a deposit on it negated the purchase. Black in color with the digi-camo look.

They contacted me and I put a deposit on the bike. They will have it ready on Monday!

Man, this is great news.  :080:

I will post some pics and other accessory laden pics when I get her home!

That was a quick wait!

Modifications, Accessories, and Appearance / Re: Windshield Options
« on: July 06, 2013, 08:16:07 AM »
I like with the Madstad windshield design on the various models that they make them for.   Give Madstad time to come up with a bracket system and a light greyed windshield for the 500X bike.

I know that I will buy one. They work and they are not too intrusive to riding.

If all you are doing is city commuting then a larger windshield is not necessary. However, for Interstate routes that reach speeds up to 75-80MPH (135kph for the rest of the world), a larger windshield is necessary.

My 500X ABS does not arrive until mid August.

Looking forward to adding the Barkbusters to my bike when it arrives.

Thanks for the pics.

The pics of your 500X and the coast of Thailand are just stunningly beautiful.

I will have to use one of your pics as my desktop background until my 500X arrives!  Here in Virginia the 500X ABS units are not due to arrive until mid August.

Thanks for posting for the rest of us.

Look forward to reading more of your posts.

Is premium gas required for the 500X like some super sport bikes or can you use regular unleaded?
