I've often wondered that, I have stock wheels and suspension (plus a few ADV mods) - but basically it's a stock CB500X that I've gradually pushed harder and harder for over 96000Km now. All of those Km have been adventures - no commuting.

It was my intention from the day I bought the bike to see just how good it was on it's own merits.
I've been impressed beyond my own, quite high, expectations.

I've passed many a true dirt bike, or an ADV bike that's cost 3 times what mine did, and they've had stuff breaking on them more often than not, it would seem. I've not done so much as a fork seal!

This ride challenged me and the bike and was the most enjoyable yet.
It was a 14 hour day on the bike, at least half of that was the through the dirt section.

Having a much more capable rider with me, on an Africa Twin, turned out to be inspiring as well and daunting  :152:

I hope you enjoy the video if you watch it - ride safe everyone!

Out of all my videos and adventures, this one day from my 15 day trip is probably the best example of what a great all-rounder the CB500X is.
Famous twisties, highways and challenging dirt roads - all before lunch!!
The trip editing is almost over and making these has really made me want to be doing it again :)

I hope some of you may enjoy the penultimate video of my 15 day trip from Lismore, far North Coast NSW to the 12 Apostles and back - mostly along the Great Dividing Range.
This bit involves some wonderful wilderness, inland between Bateman's Bay and Wollongong, through "Shallow Crossing".

The go-anywhere, try anything once bike!
Awesome views, incredible roads, a couple of fellow CB riders, a couple of NC750X's and a V-Strom to keep me company.
And yet another 10 hour day in the saddle, anyone would think I enjoy it!! 🤣
I was approaching 90000Km when I did this ride - now well over that...
Must think about a 100000Km review...

Over 300 bikes at this amazing event...
And I was on the only CB500X!!!
A fine time was had though - riding, motos, mates, camping, beer, weirdness, what more could one ask for??

Ride Reports, Trips, and Touring / Fine day for the beach!
« on: September 10, 2018, 11:01:06 AM »
I did a great ride down a pretty gnarly sand and gravel track just to get an enormous beach all to myself for a picnic!
And, of course, the CB500X got me in and out of there fine.

Continuing on from my road trip up to Queensland - a lot of fun at a VStrom meet-up and a group dirt ride - plus the little Honda did the BEST photo-bomb ever  :152:

Ride Reports, Trips, and Touring / Back on the road...
« on: April 03, 2018, 12:19:38 PM »
Most of my adventures, and the videos of them, recently have been about taking this great bike off-road.
I got the chance to do a decent long day ride to a V-Strom meeting (yeah, I brought a Honda  :745: ) and it reminded me why I love this bike on or off-road.
Now sitting on just over 78000Kms and still bringing me immense joy on every new Kilometer!

A round trip from Lismore, NSW, via The Lions Road into Queensland, then back with Les & Gary through Boonah, Mount Barney National Park and White Swamp, then Woodenbong back to Lismore. A great day!

After a year of taking the standard bike off road on normal tyres and with no skill to speak of, I will spend this year adding more off-road capability to the bike and taking it even further. Might even acquire some skill... maybe  :015:

With awesome help from friends I've started this already and took my TKC80 rear tyre on a trial ride along great dirt roads and past some superb scenery.

I hope you enjoy, ride safe everyone!  :152:

The latest in my series on how the standard X, with normal on-road tyres, handles being taken off-road.

The ride from my Brother's cabin to the Oxley Highway was 2 Hours of amazing dirt roads and tracks that I had never seen before - definitely the most I have challenged myself and the bike so far.
Did the bike get me up the damp, grassy hill? Did we have to go to plan B and haul the bike up with the tractor? Do I even know what time it is??
Find all the answers in the video, hope you enjoy :)
