CB500X - General Chat / I'm in the tabloids again...
« on: June 12, 2019, 10:45:35 AM »
Did an interview with MotorCycle News, ended up with a two page spread. (does that mean i'm a centrefold?!?....  :033: )

Modifications, Accessories, and Appearance / Bar risers, done.
« on: June 09, 2019, 06:16:42 PM »
Bought @HTCTom 's 25mm risers this morning, bolted them in this afternoon. Very easy, just take the front brake line bracket off the top triple clamp, to allow for the higher bars. Got full lock, nothing else seems stretched. I'll need to find longer allen bolts, rather than the 12mm bolts that came with the risers, so it looks better on the RR Billet Top Clamp (RRP 507), but otherwise, all good.

These guys heard about my TAT adventure, earlier this year, and asked if I might like to have a chat about it. So, if you want to listen to me drone on for an hour, about bikes, helicopters and the trail, have a listen!

Random Banter / That's me done for the rest of the year.

Broke my hand. Not bike related, just a stupid home accident. Still, got just][under 20,000 miles (since April) so can't complain.

(and yes, i still have all my fingers!  )

Modifications, Accessories, and Appearance / Bouncy fairing?
« on: November 20, 2018, 10:52:25 AM »
GPS/Smartphone/camera users; Do you find your 'nosecone' to be a little too bouncy to mount devices? Specifically when mounting to accessory bars on the windshield frame?

I find the entire front section flexes, which leads to bounce when out on the road, and off the road. So camera's have a hard time getting good video, and reading maps on a screen is  annoying as the display is blurring.

Has anyone found this, and did you find a solution?

Rally Raid / A brief brush with fame?

RR were nice enough to throw up a little FB post about my trip round the US! So, I'm having an Andy Warhol moment!   :745:

Rally Raid / Hitting my RR-X, with a sledgehammer!
« on: October 03, 2018, 09:08:21 AM »

Been 'persuading' the RR skid plate back into position! My trip along the TAT had pushed it backwards several mm's. Loosened the front bolts, and pounded the plate from the back until the rear bracket was close to straight down instead of /.

Good to see the RR skid plate isn't a 'one and done' item. That it can take a pounding both on the trail, and from being hammered back into place.

I also (finally) got the Tractive tool sent out from RR, so I was able to check the rear suspension 'sag' after the 18,000 miles i've clocked up, and adjust it back into the correct range. And yes, with ABS, it's a pain in the butt.

Ride Reports, Trips, and Touring / UKJeeper does the US!
« on: July 03, 2018, 10:05:39 AM »
Going to make this my ride report thread as I travel the US between July 2nd and August 13th.

Day one.

A long, but successful day. Got to Montreal, only to find Canada Day extends into the following day (today), which made finding a customs agent to stamp the bike forms a pain in the butt!
But with that done I found the 15 highway south (not easy without Google maps as uploading 2 pictures earlier killed my data allowance in Canada! FU Three UK!) and breezed through US customs in no time flat.
So I'm now in the US! With my bike! Pulled over in Plattsburg to find a hotel for the night, which despite its claims is NOT the 'best value'. But it was right there and I can park the bike right outside the room. So it'll do for the night.
A quick nightcap of 'sine metu' and I'm going to pass right out.
A bloody great day though.
