On Two Wheels / top case vs side cases
« on: September 06, 2014, 08:14:39 PM »
Just an observation that may help someone trying to decide between the two.
I have had a 35L top case on my bike for a year and have  even done some long trips with it on there. Even with it fully loaded I couldn't tell it was behind me. It didn't seem to change the handling of the bike much if at all.
I have recently put on some 21L hard side cases on the bike and with them loaded I can definitely tell the bike feels heavier in turns (not necessarily a bad thing) and there is definitely a significant increase in wind drag (resistance).
I plan on keeping the setup as I ride mostly highways and like to have my gear with me but I thought this might be helpful to someone.

Due to an ordering error, I may end up with an extra set of these racks. Anyone in this neck of the woods interested in saving some money on these?

Maintenance and Servicing / Don't do this with a centre stand!
« on: May 10, 2014, 04:12:53 PM »
It's pretty simple really. There isn't enough room between the oil drain hole and the stand when the bike is on it. And the oil pours out near the stand itself. This creates a bit of a mess it seems. Stick to the side stand when draining your oil!!

Now out!

Part # HA-5013

:010: Like the title says. I was told they are discontinuing these pipes. I am probably going for a two brothers black series aluminum can now. For twice the price I was going to spend on the Leo Vince. On the plus side the TB dyno chart shows up to 2hp increase. At 5700 rpms I think. 1.5hp at peak. :305:

Modifications, Accessories, and Appearance / Givi FZ1121 rack-on!!

I just fitted the Givi rack to my X with a M5M plate and Kappa K35 case. It was very straight forward, took about a half hour. I am very impressed with the sturdiness and the look of it on my bike. I didn't realize how crappy those silver grab handles made the back of the bike look 'till they were gone. They were surprisingly heavy too. :082:

Modifications, Accessories, and Appearance / motorrad-planet skid plate

A german company Motorrad-Planet has skidplates on ebay. They come black or silver and I think they look amazing. Just what I was waiting for. I ordered me up a black one and I am soooooooo excited to get it on the bike.

Have had the screen on my bike for a week but today was my first chance to ride. It definitely helps. On a stretch of road I usually ride around 110kph I was turning my head side to side to take notice of how much less pressure there was on my helmet when I looked down and realized I was going 135.  I also just got the rad guard today and installed it. It fits perfect and looks the biz. Plus when I went to put it on, I noticed two spots where rocks or something already hit the rad, so I'm glad to have the protection now.

CB500X - General Chat / Rocker plug blow at 3600kms
« on: September 25, 2013, 03:08:21 PM »
Got home from a lengthy ride yesterday and couldn't figure out why I smelled like what I thought was gunpowder. Later I noticed a few puddles under my bike and oil sprayed all over the left side. My eyes went directly to the rocker plugs and sure enough the front one is missing. The rocker shaft is sticking out about a quarter inch.  I'm not really sure how worried I should be about the possibility of damage or anything. I was riding it as hard as I ever have and the plug could have come out anywhere in a 100km range. The only thing I can say that I noticed was that the bike seemed a little louder at the end. I thought it was just enjoying the spirited riding.   :084:
