Hello Nicholas. I'm ex car mechanic and now engineer and still remember a visit that made to us a representant of oil recycling company years ago. He basically said that vast majority of engine oil was still in perfect condition when changed. The same for coolant. Why people change oil and coolant earlier even on bikes and cars used in mild conditions? The reasons are mostly human related and haven't any technical base:

- Inertia. Years ago 6000 kms was a typical oil change interval but things changed a lot. Yet some folks says that 6000 kms is too much for modern full synthetic oil. To prove it they say that when oil color is too dark (eye spectrometry) and the touch on fingers is too thin (finger viscosity meter) it should be changed.

- Peace of mind. Changing the oil earlier is conservative approach so it wouldn't harm your engine. It's true but following this logic we could change the oil every 1000km. On normal use (no racetrack, no heavy offroad, no overload, no WOT all the time, etc.) manufacturer schedule is already conservative.

- The feeling of being smarter that anyone, Honda engineers included.

I'm not saying you should follow the schedule always - as I mentioned there are situations when you really need to change oil earlier. But 90% of bikes doesn't need it.


Vw technicians suggest no oil change in some of their automatic transmission.
They claim their longlife tranny fluid can last as long as the trannys life.

So ok.

Sounds logic .

Some opel and Ford models say  suggested oil changes  at 30.000 klms.

If your diagnostic socket is red with 6 pins then check the previous answers ....

You are correct.
High and low beam are part of the same headlight assembly.
By adjusting low beam the high beam is adjusted accordingly.
I don't think there is a way of adjusting one separately.
I think it's about finding that perfect spot of adjustment for low beam and ( by manufacturer's logic ) high beam should point correctly.
I think they used the same headlight assembly for the 18 model with the lowered suspension and the 17 inch wheel.
19 model has raised suspension and 19 inch wheel.

That's why it aims so high at factory settings ( I think )

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but this the only guide to reading the mil codes that I've found. I read the mil codes last week and it was 86 serial Comms error. Now I want to clear it just to see what happens (not expecting it to solve the problem but you never know!) and the mil won't flash the code now, any ideas why?

The only issue i can see with the bike is no indicators/ turn signals.

My opinion is that Honda should change the coolant from cheap  int to OAT or HOAT.
As an engineer I can understand this causes water pump failures .

Yes, I rented it once for a week, rode like a 4k kms on it. Great bike no question, it was 650 one. One thing that I didn't like was it's too road oriented, zero offroad capabilities.

But engine is a gem, goes nicely, acceleration is linear and fuel mileage is great too. Very reliable bike.

I even have a few videos on my channel about vStrom if you're looking for something specific.

I've put a 16t front sprocket.
Raised the windscreen higher than original
Fully loaded and 2 person on.
Ride at 110/130
Max fuel consumption 3.5 l/100 km

When commuting 3.1/100 max

Best all around bike out there.
