epic ride! looking forward for the report, maybe I can use it as a loose guide and ride to Pattaya from KL.

ok, will do, did cheat a bit taking the night train from bkk to hat yai to save a few days on boring roads but arrived there refreshed from a goog nights sleep

I assume you guys are only considering travelling the west coast between KL and Thailand. Call me overly cautious if you like, but Narathiwat and surrounds have been a no-go zone for my travels over the last few years. Pity because it was an interesting area and quite beautiful in its own way, but for me now it's just not worth the risk.

A few Malaysians went for a ride there recently and they survived, they may have another go at it and I might follow them.

Buck, as I said earlier, the Narathiwat area is interesting and beautiful.  If you want to travel that route I am sure you will greatly enjoy it.  Sadly it is no longer on my list of places to revisit.  Can you just stay aware of conditions current at the time of your trip?  For example,  this is the latest report I have seen (last night).

sad to say but the best time to go is after a bomb attack. The authorities will be on high alert, the rebels laying low and everything is on sale as theres no business.  :110:
