Alabama Redneck checking in...........
« on: October 20, 2015, 12:51:30 PM »
Just traded a DR650 for my (new to me) 2014 CB500X......5k miles on her. Absolutely love this little bike. I also ride a vstrom650.......had a zrx1100 for 15 years, and numerous other bikes the last 30 years. I'm on many of the other forums under the same name "mark444" (or "Moto-Kafe"). Not sure which direction I'm headed as far as prepping the CB500.....I don't really ride dirt, but my vstrom is my long-distance, pack-mule bike for Moto-Camping. Ain't worried......maybe just ride as-is ..........not!!!  :017:
I live in Pelham (south B'ham)....20 minutes from Barber's. Occupation: Mech Enginerd.......61 yr old phart.

Hi and welcome,  I'm betting once you've put in a few rides on your X, you'll know how you want it to be.
If I can help somebody as I go along, then my living has not been in vain.

:401:  i'm pretty impressed you bought an X, sounds to me like you already had everything....Is there one thing about the X that really sealed the deal?

Hi Pete, Defender, and Gills.......thank y'all for the "Welcome"!!! I had an earlier model DR650 (very nice condition), recently acquired, and a member on the ADV forum was looking to trade his CB500X for something more "dirt oriented".....so I traded the DR plus alittle $$$$. I had NEVER even looked at the CB500X until his post came up a few weeks ago......then, started reading about all the happy X owners on that forum. Once I rode the 500, I was hooked........the engine is smooth as warm butter and the whole bike felt.......hmmmm........"tight". I still have the Vstrom 650 and will use it as my "pack-mule", hauling camping gear long distances. But this 500 will be my "hood" bike.....and the one I haul to Bike Week to putz around on down there. It's been a very long time since I owned a Honda street bike.....forgotten how well-built they are!!!  :080:

Yet another V-Strom / CB500X linking. There's a lot of us about in here. I put my Strom in part exchange for the Honda because it was too tall/heavy for me around town but one serious tourer. Now I'm delighted at how light and nimble the Honda is, hopefully you'll find the same.
Brian.

Welcome along mark444 :400: I'm not far from Birmingham either, only difference is, I'm near Birmingham UK :008:
I'm also surprised to see so many CB500X/VStrom links, it's amazing how many have (or have had) the fantastic Suzuki V twin too :028:

Greetings mark444, look forward to seeing some of your travels. Coming from a VStrom myself, I'll be interested in your comparison or which one gets a leg over more.
