« on: October 24, 2013, 01:03:49 AM »
Got a big ride coming up tomorrow. Around 500 miles.
It'll be a test to see if i can tour on my cbx or if i will have to keep my cruiser for the touring holidays.
Hope the 500 does my proud and the sun beats down on me

I have been very happy with my X on the long rides. Can't wait to hear your ride report from the trip!
Have fun!

well i'm back and i really got the distance wrong. I only did 209 miles. About 80% motorway with some lovely twisting country roads thrown in on the way to the coast. The weather held out well so lots of sunshine but it was very windy on the motorway and i sat at 70 all the way. the bike was effected a lot by the wind it's 50kg lighter than my cruiser and i could tell with the side winds.
fuel economy was good (74.6mpg), wind protection was good with the tall screen and the bike was more than happy with the journey and faultlessly and smooth all the way. so the bike was fine but my body is the problem:
my back is a bit sore which is a know problem i have with every bike and the main issue was my sore bum. i can tolerate about an hour in this saddle before needing a rest i also have pain in my right knee from the peg position and my right thumb is strained from opposition on the throttle side.  My honda shadow doesn't have these problems but has a 100mile tank range and weighs a lot more. it also lacks the security of ABS and lets be honest its not as fun as the cbx
It has now left me wondering if i should sell my cruiser as planned or keep it for touring once a year. I would rather have the money for the cruiser as the cbx is an fantastic machine but my cruiser is more comfy.  i guess when touring there are frequent stops so they may alleviate the pain issues.

Nice write up Dukie, Would some bar risers and seat padding help out your back issue?
There seems to be a nice amount of luggage options out there already for touring, and you've said it yourself, the X is more fun than the shadow.

No such thing as bad biking weather. Just a bad choice of clothing and attitude.

Hi Dukie

It might be worth seeing a chiropractor being as it is such a long standing problem? :084:4

Best wishes
Gary
