In the words of Capt Oates "I could be gone some time"
« on: July 09, 2017, 05:53:34 PM »
My good friend Trev on his Varadero and myself on my little 500X are off on a journey of discovery. Historical sites, Capital cities and more interesting things than we can throw a stick at. Nearly 4K miles, 2 ferry crossings, a chunnel trip and a few cold beers in the evenings. Just one hotel booked and the rest as it comes. What could possibly go wrong??? Will try to update when we find wifi.

Best of luck on your journey, a different choice from the usual. It will be interesting to follow your travels so plenty of pics and updates on progress please.
Hope you have better fortune than Capt. Oates. The X will see you through.

Hopefully a route full of surprise and interest. Points that are a must include Dambuster Dams, Berlin wall and Checkpoint Charlie, Treblinka Concentration Camp, Hill of Crosses and an old submarine base(russian) in Estonia. Looking forward to Warsaw and experiencing former communist centres. I am sure Sweden & Denmark will be wonderful.
Its a Honda ! the CB500x is joy to ride, having ridden bikes for over 40 yrs the one thing I can rely on is my Honda.  Will try to post updates and photo's when wifi and time allow.

That is a great loop! I have considered going North myself a few times but am a bit weary of the weather. Nothing beats riding my bike in the sunshine, but on my way back from Spain I had 3 days of rain and wind going through France. Moments of doubt can creep in at times like that!

Anyway, I hope that you will have a great ride and keep us posted!

So far so good, the weather has been good with an odd shower in the evening. The 500x has performed well and despite some fairly brisk riding has been averaging 74-78 mpg. Amazing.  Yesterday we stayed off the motorways, 300 miles of A+ B roads. Whilst the Varedero has the grunt for swift overtakes more planning is needed on the X. My friend hasn't had to wait for me!😀  So far 750 miles. Visited the Mohne Dam yesterday scene of 633 squadron the Dambusters

So you have already passed the worst piece of the journey: between Gent and Antwerp!
It's all gravy from now on... ;-)
Enjoy!
