Bit the bullet and popped for a pair of these SH23's.
Good write ups on a couple other forums.
After I get them on, I'll post my thoughts.

cool, I'm looking forward to hearing your review.  From the Shad website, the SH23 sidecases will fit with HOCX57IF kit.  https://www.shadusa.com/products/h0cx57if
The pics look nice.  I was really wanting that kit and cases, but everything I read said they don't work right, and yadda yadda, wont fit, impossible to ship back or customer service issues.  I ended up buying Givi V35 sidecases and mounts from a US dealer to save any trouble, and paid close to $1k!  The Givi stuff is really nice, and serves me well, but I still wish I had saved a few hundred bucks.

Hi, Cbdolly. I'm thinking of getting the SH23 cases. Can you explain what you mean by ' bolted to the rear hanger aperture rather than through it' ?
Thanks, ceebixit

here are links to the bags and mounts I got
the pic for the mounts shows the mount location. Install was easy and straightforward in a half hour or so.

Thanks, nbsdave
All looks easy to install. I just ordered SH23 cases and brackets from this company in France:

https://www.silverstonemotor.com/en/recherche?controller=search&orderby=position&orderway=desc&search-cat-select=0&search_query=shad+sh23&submit_search=

This supplier has the best prices I have found, including delivery to Ireland.
The side cases + frames kit complete is even 43 (that's $49) less than Revzilla. And they would have to add shipping from the States.

A happy day as I await my New Year's present to me!
I'm off to polish the CBX...... Again!

I just finished installing the Shad 3P racks that hold the SH23 side cases on my 2016 CB500X. The right side rack goes on easily. However, the left side rack does not. The instructions make Ikea's look like poetry. The problem is where the lower mount on the left side rack goes. It actually goes BEHIND the footpeg AND the muffler mount AND spaced about 10mm from the muffler mount. You have to install your own spacers, between the muffler mounting tab and the bolt's nut. SHAD doesn't supply them. And you have to get a 10mm longer bolt as well. It took me a long time to figure out until I found this posting by a god among men, "Mister Paul". See: https://www.cb500x.com/index.php/topic,4098.0.html, about halfway through the thread he posted two pictures showing the spacer offset he had to use. I did that, and now have the rack on properly.
Otherwise, I think the cases look really good on the CB500X, as they are not huge and ungainly. I also like that they open from the top.

The racks I received went onto my 2018 model seamlessly. No spacers were needed, and a longer bolt was supplied for the exhaust side mount.

I made one small alteration;
The install instructions I got show the upper mount installed outside the upper bracket.
I found that if I mounted it inside the upper bracket all installed snugly at a better angle.

It may be that frame kits for 2016 and 2018 models are not the same. And that has caused you difficulties.

Anyway, I agree, these Shad SH23 sure do look the part on the CB500X. Roll on Summer     :152:

Honda changed the muffler in the 2017 model year, so that must be the difference. On the 2016, the muffler is stainless steel all the way to the tip, but in 2017, there is a black insert along the bottom from about the middle of the muffler to the back. So the mount must have changed, thus the need for a spacer on the 2016 model.

Per your suggestion, I changed the top mounts to go under the undersaddle mounting bracket, and yes, it does tighten it up and bring it together better. Thanks!

I'm off on a 2000 mile roundtrip ride from Virginia to Alabama next week, and am looking forward to seeing how the SH23s work on a tour.

That's not the difference. My Shad gear was on my '15 (previous) X and it had the gap. Shad admitted that there was an issue.
