The rear tread had barely worn the wear-markers (was considering a replacement, honest), when I noticed steel carcass wires shining back at me from the tyre centre  :005:
Bike is 18,000mls and I know the previous owner had replaced the rear before. Going with a hopefully longer-lasting alternative (& will buy its replacement well in advance :002: ). Mind you, we're unlikely to have such hot/ dry summer roads again here in Scotland for quite a few years, so next tyre should last much longer!

I discovered your pain years ago.

Just do not forget that once the tyre is worn below the tread groves you are now on the carcass rubber, not tread rubber. The tread is a CAP over the carcass and the carcass usually have very low grip rubber ( that isn't what it is designed for).

The upgrade Scorpion Trail II tires are excellent. The 2013-15 OEM Scorpions were not well liked for good reasons. I upgraded both at 8000 miles. The rear looked like the photo. Now, at 39000 miles, I'm on my 3rd front and 5th rear STII. Price is now around 145 and 165 US $ respectively. Average runs have been 15000 and 7500 miles respectively for an operating cost of 0.032 $/mile.

I had the Trail II tires for a while now. In fact, I got a new set at 12K miles I think. Now I'm at 21k miles on the same tires. Very good tread life, rainy and wet conditions and even do "ok" in low traction areas. We went up riding around Mt.Hood, around a quarry, muddy areas etc and they held up ok. Stock suspension as well. They are starting to show some wear, obviously. I think 705's are next on the list.
Not sure what's worse: coming from a town full of hippies and not being one myself or thinking I'm in denial...

I replaced the stock tires (Dunlop D609F) for a set of Scorpion Trail II last year. Now they have been ridden for 12Kms (7.5 Miles) and the rear one is not so far from the recommended tread depth level so I'll probably be changing it soon.

I have been very pleased with the Scorpion Trail II, they have a good grip in all conditions and a good life span. I ride my CB500X all year long in all kind of weather and they have always been holding great.  :001:
