16 Cb500x or the 17 Cb500x
« on: August 06, 2018, 07:41:35 PM »
Looking very seriously at a new Cb500x.
The local dealer has 17s for $5600, 18s for $6600 Plus a 16 with 3200 miles for $4600
Is the extra $1000 worth it for the 17
Looking into an Cb500x
Have 83 XL600R

As far as I know, the only difference between the 2016 and the 2017/18 is the later models have the belly pan deleted and the new muffler.  Otherwise they are the same bike.

are you comparing apples to apples?
are all three with ABS?
if so, the '16 isn't a bad deal

I'm pretty sure there are some other differences between MY16 and MY17, one of the other guys will be along soon to clarify.

Nope, no other major differences other than the belly pan delete and new exhaust. One thing is the revised rearset styling, but positioning is the same so it's just a cosmetic one.
The bigger changes in fairing, led lamp, suspension, flip up fuel filler, newer keys etc. came with the 2016 models.

Yes, the 2016 also got the clutch improvements and the adjustable fork preload as well.

The 2017 just got cosmetic changes to include the belly pan delete, the new muffler and the change in foot peg mounts that did not change the position of the foot pegs.

I got a reasonably good deal on an unregistered 17 a few weeks back but that was a U.K. sale.

If the 17 model is brand new for $5600, then potentially it is worth the extra $1000 over the 2nd hand 16 model, as it will come with a full warranty. It also has a slightly more contemporary looking OEM exhaust (and the new-shape footrest hangers), so less parts you might wish to upgrade/replace over time.

Otherwise, as others have suggested - from 2016 on, it really does come down to which colour you prefer.
