YouTube Bike Reviews
« on: October 30, 2018, 08:25:15 PM »
I used to like YouTube for honest bike reviews from owners. But then almost every biker with a camera started doing bike test rides and so called reviews, I've done a few myself and admit they were just really test rides.
This one however caught my attention and some of you might already have seen it. To me the guy is just a tool and doesn't get the real reason why so many folks like this bike. To him it's just another test ride for the so called fan base. These guys really think they are YouTube celebs. "Cringe".  :151:
According to him we ride a 500cc Honda Grom, even though the CB500X was out before the Grom. Lol

The Grom was out several years before we got the CB-X in the US. I almost bought one to commute on.

Are you sure about that? All countries got the CB500X in 2013 and apparently the Grom started production in 2014.

Just checked. You're right. I thought the Grom was new in 2011.  :430:

Applecorp was right it into it boots and all.  :192:

People gots opinions. I think on the scales of like it or hate it, they're tipped firmly on the like it side for this bike.

I think he mostly shows who's going to ride a bike like the CB500x. I get the feeling we won't be seeing Dan at a CB500X ride out. Is that a good or bad thing?

Remember YT didn't make people who they are, it just lets us see them.

I saw that video 10 months ago, I know this because I made a comment at the time.

"Review it again in 20 years when you've grown up.
It's a great bike built to purpose. Just because you don't look cool to your friends on it doesn't mean it's "meh".

Made it 2m into the video. It'd say the video is "meh"

I'll acknowledge that I have a bias favouring the X, but I do try to be as fair and reasonable as possible with things. He did make some good points.

But, for me he kept comparing it to bikes or features that simply aren't relevant, and the favourable comments that he did make seemed patronising because of these silly comparisons.

Frankly, he seems to be the sort of guy who's only interested in a 600 or 1000 slingshot. If that's the case, then they are the bikes that he should comment on, because nothing else stands a chance (unless it will easily pull a wheelie in second... this seemed to be quite important to him).

I really don't understand his Grom reference. That was just weird.

The other thing that I have to comment about, is that the video is so long. I'd prefer something either succinct (yes, I'm aware of the irony that I sometimes write more than is needed) or, if it must go longer, entertaining. This was, to be blunt, neither. He kept repeating himself (and occasionally contradicted himself), which is boring.

I agree, there's a lot of worthless review videos out there, but you don't know whether something is bad until you watch it.

Having said all of that, I have been craving a bit more power lately, but that will pass.  :008:

A wise man once said "opinions are like A holes...everyone has one"
The only reviews I take the remotest interest in are long-term owners reviews, and comparative group tests....the rest are either shill pieces, self-indulgent ego meanderings or bubblegum for the eyes....
