Spare parts
« on: December 18, 2018, 01:38:31 PM »
Out of curiosity I started to price a new motorcycle from the parts list . I have done a complete cylinder head with valves etc so far. 2800 . When I come to sell I think I will break it .  :005:

And I'm sure that doesn't even take into account the sealants and lubrication used in assembly, not to mention the labor and shipping charges!

10 years ago I spoke a Honda head engineer about rebuilding a bike with NOS parts. Take the price of sale new and then times 6....

Building a NOS XL500s 1979/1981 from ground takes at this moment 10 times the price of those years. 4000-5000 dutch guilders.
Can take a year to find, but parts are available. Costs parts at this moment are around 15.000 euro excluding the build.

Just curious as to your reasoning.

I was checking prices for shims and thought them a little pricey and passed some time pricing a cylinder head from components . I don't actually need it . Can't believe  such a pricing strategy is necessary  , unless of course you would rather sell a new bike than parts . It also fuels theft for parts on an industrial scale .

That's the price of individual parts only , you still have to build it yourself !

Gotcha. Funny that for cars I usually go aftermarket for parts and for motorcycles I usually try to get OEM stuff.

Priced out a few bolts and things for my bike recently. jeeeeeeze louise parts are expensive.
