2017 Cb500x first service
« on: January 05, 2019, 09:08:25 PM »
I'm looking at a pre registered 2017 bike, I recall the early models required a valve clearance check at 600 miles (~£300) I read somewhere that later models do not require this. Is this correct or am I facing a bill within the first few weeks?

Only the 2013 CB500X bikes required the 600 mile valve clearance check.

I did the valve clearance inspection on my 2014 just before 15K miles and had a few just under the minimum.  I wound up dropping all 8 shims two sizes (0.05 mm).

Anyone who paid £300 for a 600 mile valve clearance check needs certified.  :112:

It was a new engine with the original bike, so Honda instigated the early valve checks until they were confident that they weren't needed. Once they saw that all was well they dropped them off the schedule. You could say that we were doing their testing for them, and paying for it.

I wasn't one of them, seen it a mile off. Bloody chancers.

IIRC, they raised the price of the bike by ~$300 between the 2013 and the 2014 bikes.

I ordered a 2014 with ABS, as the USA was not getting many ABS bikes during 2013.

Been deliberating a long time over this, I've been going round the MT/SV/GS/Tracer loop over and over again but for someone that's been away from motorcycling for longer than I care to mention the CBX just seems to make so much sense. Looking forward to spring now.
