Shad Top box Fitting
« on: March 10, 2019, 05:02:49 PM »
fitted the Shad top box today on a 500x . problems with the mounting kit
removed the rear hand grips to fit the mounting bars each side of the bike. the bars fit under the hand grips but on assembly realised Shad do not supply longer bolts (2 each side) the original bolts are 25mm long but the mounting bar tab is around 6 to 8mm thick leaving minimal screw in length certainly insufficient to safely torque without striping threads Went to the local car shop and luckily found bolts at 50mm length cut them down to to around 35mm did the job.
how come Shad make such a basic error??

I ran this kit on my last X for a year and never had a problem, despite the top box being regularly overloaded.
