CB400X to CB500X
on: March 12, 2020, 03:41:54 PM
For purely discussion's sake, do you think it's possible to convert the Japanese CB400X to a 500X?
Seems like pistons, connecting rod, crankshaft, balancer are different. electronics: ECU and meter appear to be different.

I think you've answered your own question: possible - yes; financially realistic and worth the hassle? - almost certainly no.

You'd be better off selling the 400 and buying a 500, not that it's going to be appreciably different other than a little more mid-range [torque] perhaps...

Another option would be to source a secondhand 471cc engine & loom/ignition module from any of the other CB models and swap it over - but again, what would be the point unless your 399cc version needs replacing?

And fundamentally perhaps, would you be able to register the 500 engine'd version in a country where the 400 is the domestic market model?

From what I have read there is only a one HP different between the two bikes-sure the 500 has more torque but the 400 revs higher
It's not a big motorcycle just a groovy little motorbike

I've ridden both, not sure about the higher rev but the 500X has more usable power in the higher revs
