Fill up time.
« on: July 09, 2019, 06:49:46 AM »
Hi all, X wants fuel, fine.

Any benfits to using the higher grade fuel in UK pumps?

I don't normally ponder this but as the X is so frugal, paying the extra isn't a problem at all.

Ta very much for input.

Hi,

I've accidentally filled up a few times with the higher grade fuel, but I notice absolutely no difference in either how smooth the engine runs (it runs smoothly regardless!) nor fuel consumption (I get around 85 mpg, imperial gallons).

I would save the 5p/l and ride more  :002:

I've ran mine on V-Power a number of times and I do seem to get about 5mpg more out of a tank. (Which doesn't cover the extra cost) in theory the additive pack they put with v-power should keep the fuel system cleaner.

No noticeable additional power.

No problem.

Don't expect any more power, just wondering if it may make the power delivery a little smootner.

I guess Honda have engineered it so it doesn't matter.

I've found no difference between "regular" and "premium" when I've used both in the US. Seems like premium is just a way to burn up money.

Only if you work for an Oil company and are on profits share.

Far better to spend the money saved on loose women and/or Ginsters pasties

Let me throw this out there-but I'm talking about 2019X in the USA only-when I first got the bike I knew the added mid range might be hard to feel and it felt soft less power comparing it to my 2014X so after 600 miles and first oil change I stated to get into it a little and heard engine rattle at 6,000 rpm up- not a big surprise with the crap gas we have and with temps in the mid 90's F so I tanked up with premium 93 octane to mix with the half tank of regular I had - I found the missing power and a way better running engine so I will be running mid grade from now on at lease till the temp's go down in the fall
It's not a big motorcycle just a groovy little motorbike

If your engine is knocking or otherwise running poorly there is something wrong. I suppose it could be crap gas but if you got it at a name brand station with a decent sales volume I kinda doubt it.
