Hi all,

This is my first post here, I hope I am not breaking any rules.

This month I am about to pass the bike exam in Europe and get my A license. I am a short rider, 169cm (5'6''), but I would really like to get the Honda CB500X 2019 version. This will be my first bike. Thing is this bike is 830mm in seat height and while I am able to sit on it, my feet are barely touching the ground, so I am thinking of installing a lowering kit which should make the seat height 800mm and should be just fine for me.

What should I keep in mind after I do this and will this affect the bike negatively or positively in any way? I am thinking that installing the lowering kit will also reduce the ground clearance of the bike.

Another thing that comes to my mind is that perhaps I will also need to lower the front suspension for about 30mm (about the same as the lowering kit). Will this also be possible with the 2019 version?

Third would be the kickstand. Will it require a replacement with a shorter kickstand or I will be able to use the same?

I would really like to see any other advise that you may have.

Thank you.

Have you thought of trying one of the pre 2019 models. They have a lower seat height than the 2019 model due to the fact that the front wheel is 17" on the earlier models.

You may be able to get your feet on the ground easier. It would also save a load of modifications and extra cost!!

Rally Raid do a 20mm lowering kit for the 2019, its only 20 so definitely worth a try.

Id check with someone like John from Rally Raid before lowering the front. It may be there isnt much wheel to rad/down pipes clearance when dropping the yokes on the stanchions.

I did, but I can not get it in my country. The shop said they can not deliver.

On the Rally Raid Lowering Kit http://www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk/cb500x-2019-lower-lowering-link-20mm page there is a description:
Our own, simple design of 2 laser-cut, stainless steel Lowering Links to suit the Honda CB500X 2019 model only.
These are quick to fit, and require the front forks to be dropped through the triples 20mm, to match the reduction at the rear, in order to reduce the OEM seat height by 20mm.

Which means that the fork preload can be dropped down. Thanks a lot for this information.

Regards,

I would say you should consider riding the thing for a while before you lower it.  I'm 162 on a 2017 X (my first bike bigger than a 125) and nowadays, 8 months later, it feels perfectly manageable.

I'm also thinking about lowering my 2019 a bit.
Does anybody know the torque specifications for the involved bolts, at the fork and the rear links?

Here is a diffent shop, which offers worldwide shipping:

According to the Haynes manual:-

Top clamp bolts:- 22Nm
Bottom clamp bolts:- 32Nm
Suspention linkage bolts:- 44Nm

Those are the settings for the 13-15 model as that's the only manual I have available but I can't see them being different for the newer models?
