CBX and Murals
« on: August 03, 2019, 11:31:29 AM »
Do you enjoy looking at murals in the towns you ride through?  Here in the U.S., we often find them in small towns that are struggling. They can be a point of civic pride, an advertisement, a reminder of better days or just an eccentric statement someone painted on the side of a building. There are some great ones out there.

Go find some and take a picture of it with your CBX parked in front.  :306:

To prime the pump, I shot this one yesterday.

Salemburg, NC

Let's see what you find...

Glasgow has a Mural Trail, which includes the two pictured here.  Unfortunately, there is no 500X in the photos - it's no fun riding in Glasgow City Centre, which now has a 20mph limit and an increasing number of bus lanes and bus only streets.  The latest (Union Street along the side of Central Station) opens on Monday, so don't get a ticket for driving along this new bus only route!!

Some of the murals promote the city, like the Commonwealth Games swimmers, but most are just trying to brighten up the place...many of them on tenement gable ends.

I'll try to find some more murals, and get the bike in the picture next time!

Glad you are interested in murals AJC500, just get that CB in the next one  :001: Just pulling your chain..
They are cool looking though.

I am with you though on staying out of the big cities. A lot of our big ones have some nice murals, but it's just to much trouble to ride a bike to see them. Plus you probably (certainly) can't park in front of it.

Here they often give insight to the small towns you frequently find them in. They may be fresh and bright - like the town trying to revitalize. They may be old and faded - like the buildings they are painted on. They often reflect past glory days in the area and becoming more popular - just artistic statements. Enjoying murals is a good way to slow the pace, take the less traveled route and show a little support for small towns. Grab a cup of coffee, get lunch, fill your fuel tank, leave a few bucks behind.

Looking forward to seeing your CB's in front of a Scottish mural  :152:

He! He! I promise a 500X in front of a mural soon!  :008:

In the meantime, here is a photo from last year, when I visited my brother in Canada - this was taken on a walking tour of Halifax...

Here's a mural from Newton, Iowa, USA. Most small towns in the USA have a lot of closed stores in their downtown, so Newton decided to create a mural to make it look like there is still activity.

Nice one Harry, but where's the bike?  :138:
A mural is only half great without the CB.
Thanks for posting though.

It was already parked there before I saw this thread! There are some more murals  very close to my home in Helsinki. It's not too difficult to drive around to find them. You could use this map http://katutaidehelsinki.fi/ to find some street art around the city.
