2019 model tyres
« on: September 09, 2019, 01:41:01 PM »
Has anyone fitted Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres to their 2019 model? If so I would appreciate their opinions. NB I would be using them for 100% road use. Any suggestions for alternative tyres would also be appreciated

There are SO MANY opinions on tyres on the forum, and a wee search should get a lot of information and recommendations.

The only thing I would suggest is - if you are going 100% road use, fit 100% road tyres.

Michelin PR4's and 5's are favourites on here, I have Pirelli Angel ST (sport touring) tyres, and there are many other opinions (!) including Avon Trailriders for a chunkier off road look.

However, I have a 2017 so I don't know how the 2019 model's 19" front wheel affects your choice..... :084:

I have Scorpion2 trail on my RR wheel set, and Road 5 on the cast wheels for purely road use.
To clarify - the road 5 is not available in 19 front sizes, so that is currently out from the picture.
The Scorpion 2 trail is a brilliant tire, I have not yet found anything to fault it. You won't find 160/60r17 for the oem rear size - so you have to use the 150 wide rear tire.

Edit: forgot you've asked about the 19 bike, the following is for L2 owners only, but once I've typed it on my mobile I rather jeep it here, hope it will be useful for someone.

Having said that, for only road use I'd use the stock 17/17 cast wheel set and would use Road 5 on it. The R5s are great in fair weather and excellent in the wet - they just don't let go. I find the 17 front  wheel better on road, so I change the wheels for on road (17) and mixed terrain (19) adventures. Btw, I've converted my spoked wheel set to tubeless, but even then, the spoked wheel set (mainly because of the heavy hub at the rear and the very heavy brake disc spider at the front) is heavier than the oem cast wheel set.
Hope this helps.

I've run through many sets of Scorpion Trail IIs on my '14 X in the OEM sizes. If you can get a set with the '19 X front OEM size, there's probably not a better 80/20 street/dirt choice. I have no reason to look elsewhere.
