Is This Thing Working?
« on: September 21, 2019, 03:50:18 PM »
How accurate do you folks find the on-board fuel consumption readout? I'm still working my way through the first tank full and being gentle with a new engine, but it's showing 89.1mpg (UK gallons) which sounds almost too good to be true...I don't feel I'm riding 'that' slow or steady. If it's right, I'm getting better consumption than my old Suzuki GW250 Inazuma when I was running that in!

When I do the math I find the onboard mileage runs 7-10% better than my calculations.

I average mid to high 80's all the time - but that is just by the Honda instrumentation..... it's VERY economical, and I do enjoy watching my pals fill up their big engined, gas-guzzling bikes half way through a day ride!!
The Story So Far.........
2017 and 2018: 8000miles recreational use - 89.82mpg UK; 74.79mpg US; 3.14litres/100km

I have my 2019 CBX now about 1100 km and have until now in the run-in phase consumption of about 3.3 L / 100km. I drive relatively quickly in hilly terrain and do not turn the engine up to the red area. I am very satisfied with that.

wonder if dividing miles traveled by gallons used would have gotten the same result?

The computer in the 2019 freaks me out it's always within 1 mile per gallon-I average 74 mpg US--if I drive say 40 mph in 6th gear the computer will show  100-110 mpg--scary stuff :821:
It's not a big motorcycle just a groovy little motorbike

Not very accurate in my case, 2015X

Comparing the fuel consumption shown in the dash to the quantity refueled (to full tank) I always found that the computer said I consumed more (up to or more than 1 ltr delta when I am empty) than the quantity refueled.
This is impossible since I reset the trip counter every time I refuel.

Lat.

EDIT: this should mean, in my case, that I am actually getting better mileage per liter than the mileage calculated by the computer. Normally around 27 km./lt.

If you want better accuracy do it tank to tank using an app or just a pen and paper. For what it's worth I use FuelLog. And it confirms near 80 mpg fully run in and not riding for economy.
