Instead of the CB500X
« on: January 02, 2020, 02:19:30 PM »
I know it's not the best time of year to find bikes for sale but I've spent the last couple of months looking for a CB500x without any luck, missed a very nice 2019 by a couple of hours. Now I'm starting to think maybe I should look for something else.. My idea is to find a bike that I can grow old with  :481: or until they ban petrol

If you had to what would you replace your 500 with??

My budget is 5,000

P.S I'm not a fan of Suzuki's  :002:

500X is still my perfect bike, but if I ever decide to replace it, it'll be because I'm getting older and I want a 'show and shine' type of bike, for ride-outs and chat on a sunny day.

It'd be a classic/retro (not like Yamaha's XSR700, which I don't see as a proper retro), something like a Triumph Street Twin and derivatives, Honda CB1100, Moto Guzzi V7, Kawasaki W800, Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 or even an Indian Scout.

Won't happen anytime soon though, I enjoy riding the X too much!!   :001:

For an equivalent (mid-size) modern 'adventure' bike, I'd look at Kawasaki Versys 650, BMW GS700/800, Tracer 700 or even Honda NC750X, but then I don't ride off-road - that might need something lighter, but there ain't much (anything!) out there in the 250-400cc market that I like!!   :084:

Additional - there are a few larger/adventure Chinese bikes appearing now - CFMoto650MT, Benelli TRK502 etc., and you'd probably get one of them new, it just depends on whether you are up for the (possible) gamble of buying Chinese.....  My Korean Hyosung GT650 was excellent over many years of ownership, but a lot weren't.....  :016:

I don't know how flexible your budget is, but at 5k your very close to what I've seen some dealers ask for stock or pre-registered bikes...might be worth visiting some local Honda dealers to see what they might have 'bolted to the showroom floor' for the whole of winter. A cheeky offer might 'just' be taken up and it costs nothing to ask!   :001:

Yam Tracer 700 would be the first test ride.

Apparently the Tenere is a better road bike - better suspension...

I had a test ride on the 700 Tracer, liked it, but bought the XSR700. No regrets.

I just popped into my local Yamaha dealer to have a look at the Tracer, he also has a 2016 XSR 700 that he's offered me for a good price. I did have my heart set on the CB but I must admit the Tracer does look like a great option. Just got to work out what to do
