2018 or 2019?
« on: February 08, 2020, 07:20:16 PM »
The local dealer has a 2018 with ABS for $5499USD. They offered $1500 for my 2005 Honda VTX 1300R. OTD about $5400. I might be able to get them down to $5000 OTD. In your opinion is there enough difference between the 2019 and 2018 to justify going with the 2019? I dont foresee myself really doing any off-roading.

Im also looking at the 2019 VStrom 650 with an advertised price of $6499.

2018 with 17" front wheel is a great road bike, especially with a nice set of road tyres - and there is plenty of opinion on what road tyres on here!!
The Story So Far.........
2017-2019: 12000mls recreational use - 89.73mpg UK; 74.72mpg US; 3.15litres/100km

I agree. You don't say what the cost of a 2019 would be, but 5-5.4k OTD is good.

I agree with the others that if you are staying on the asphalt, get a deal on a pre-19. But, that said, I don't think you are getting a steal on the 2018. In August, a local dealer had brand new 2017's for $4,999 out the door. Just tax and license added.  Maybe some more haggling or looking around is in order? Also, maybe a low mileage used one could work for you.

Lastly I would say as a 3 time Vstrom 650 owner, stick with the CBX if you are a solo rider. IMO, it's more fun.

Cheers and good hunting.
Just damn happy to be here...

I wasn't ready to haggle. The sales person asked me what it would take to get it done today. I told him the truth that I wasn't ready to commit, and when I am then I'll try to get down some more. I said that knowing that there is a chance it could be gone. So be it. :)

As far as the VStrom or the 500X goes, and the fun factor. I live in Houston so what little riding I have done is purely flat. MOst of my riding the last 2 years have been guided Motorcycle tours on Vstroms in Thailand and Laos. Riding sharp twisties, and tight switchbacks was fun. Although the Laos trip included a lot of rain so it was still fun, but nerve racking for me.

Thanks for the replies.

I also have had two 500X and two Suzuki DL- if you can really get the DL650 for $6500 I would not walk but run to the dealer-I think it's alot more bike the extra power is nice to have-but heavier by 50lbs which is alot don't get me wrong I love  my 500X but if I was 10 years  younger I would be on another DL650 the one with the tubeless spoke wheels - question of 18 vr 19 again having had both the improved trans and the dash to me is well worth it- if you buy the 2018 X I'm sure you will injoy it just don't ride a 2019X or a DL :745:

Thanks!  When you say no freight or set-up, do you mean you were not charged for either of these?

If anyone else has any recent sale price data they are willing to share, that would be much appreciated by those if us who are shopping!
