2019/20 Front wheel on older X?
on: March 27, 2020, 05:48:55 AM
Hey guys. What do you think about purchasing a 2019/20 19" front wheel and installing it onto my 2015 X? Other than being 19", it doesn't look to be a huge design difference from my already non spoked OEM wheels. I like the idea of a 19" front wheel, but I don't like the limited choices and out of my budget rally raid price since I would have to get both. For approx. $225 from what I have found, would I be able to swap out my front wheel? (obviously along with picking up a 19" tire).Or would I also have to bring the rear up a bit to compensate since the new models sit a little higher?

AFAIK there are some differences in disc diameter, caliper mounting, ABS sensor and axle between CB500X 2019 and previous versions. Maybe swapping it together with fork lower tubes would work. But it will be highly experimental task. It all depends on money and time you want to spent on this mod.

I personally think it's possible - when 2019 version has been released I investigated the possibility of front wheel and clutch from 2019 to my 2017 bike. My conclusion was - it's possible but it will be too expensive and requieres too many effort.

Regards

This has been discussed before. Iím sure you will find itís not really possible without other changes. For a start, wheel to radiator/fairings clearance needs to be checked and is the reason the geometry and yokes are different on the 2019.

The amount of time and money required would surely mean swapping to a 2019 bike would be the best option. Or buying the RR kit in stages?

Hi ADVaddict - as soon as the 2019-on model was introduced last year, this was the #1 FAQ on here (and every other forum!), and indeed, if you search "#1 FAQ", you'll find my explanation of what would be required, and why it is not cost-effective to try and use the OEM Honda parts...

If you really want the 19" front end, either sell/trade your earlier model for a 2019-on bike, or go the Rally-Raid suspension/wheel route, which will also give you much higher quality suspension (and spoked wheels) too.

Hope that helps...

Fair enough! My bad for not doing a thorough search before posting. I didn't realize that the hubs would be much different. I'd like to think I'm a pretty decent fabricator, but there are always questionable projects that can easily become more involved than what one had hoped. I'll do a bit more research on the fits and tolerances, assembly differences, etc. For the most part though it looks like y'all have covered it already. Thanks a lot for all of your input.
