93.3 mpg.......334.5 miles
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:54:22 AM »
Wanted to see what bike could do so rode steady with real gentle throttle and acceleration.. Was comuting to work.. 65 miles each way from Ipswich to Great Yarmouth outer harbour.. Impressive but I think if ya were bumbling about on a bike hol by ya self admiring the scenery I think 100 mpg could be done.. Managed 312 miles before I hit reserve.. Gauge was showing 0.2 used of reserve when I filled up and was flashing fast... Put 16.31 litres in filling as much as I could.. 93.3 mpg( gauge was showing 79.8mpg and over 4 gallons used lol... It only a 17.3 litre tank, which is under 4 gallon !!!!!!

538 kilometres on a tank?  :005:  That is bloody awesome Kev, thanks for sharing  :062:

Good to know that the bike computer might have the same mathematical capabilities as I do some of the time too  :034:

I am at about 275km on my first tank and it has three bars remaining (1/2 a tank) on the fuel guage.  That kind of suggests I could be headed toward the 500km mark myself but I would have guessed more like the low 400s.

I wouldn't say I am riding like a vicar but I am taking it quite easy on the run in. Will let ya know how it goes when I fill up the first time.

Think you ll be good for 500km.. You prob good for 50 -60 km once you hit reserve .. Reserve light comes on once 3 litres left so two thirds of a gallon good for at least 40 miles if ya ragging it

I bet there are a lot of 'real' adventure bike riders who'd kill for a tank range like that!  In my mind the CB is an adventure bike - so long as you don't intend to do the Road of Bones!

Ground clearance is its biggest problem off road, though I ve seen pic s of a versys with longer forks and extended rear shock.. Seat was bout a metre high though.. No good for a short arse like me lol!!!

Oh yeah I agree - but does 'adventure' always mean offroad?  :-)

People or salesman think ya gotta have a huge bike but the opposite is true for an adventure bike.. What's the definition of an adventure bike...any bike can be one.. One bloke went From oz to here on a 110 cc postie bike( like a honda c90.. Crunch).. Think it safe to say he had an adventure.Only thing holding any of us back is responsibilities of life not whatever bike we happen to own. Ya just need to chuck a bit of gear on back and go..even a weekend away can be an adventure of sorts, can be cheap to if ya camp and stay out of the pub !!!

Absoutely blumin right!  Who wants to be in the middle of nowhere with a huge bike piled up with luggage lying on its side that you can't pick up! I live in Cornwall - going to Cambourne is an adventure!  If you haven't been there you wont know what I mean.  It's called locally - Spoontown.

Went up to Lake District I may, me on my zzr full hard luggage tank bag.. I gonna miss all that luggage capacity.. Mind you least I won't have to carry all my brother in laws gear for him any more.. Price of luggage and racks so far is mad.. I ve got a small givi top box strapped to back seat at mo for work. Not paying over 200 quid for rear rack.. Also brought givi 305 soft luggage.. Give it a look.. Comes with stiffeners so keeps it s shape.. Looks good for soft luggage..150 if I travel light perhaps small bag on top should be enough for long weekend away camping

Kev, I'm envious!  My commute goes through far too many stoplights and non-highway roads to hold a candle to your MPG.  I'm hoping to get a nice, long ride in tomorrow so I'll see if I can up (even a bit) closer to you.
